For some it was 3 days of vacation. For me, 3 days of rest.
‘All good things come to an end,’ they say. And if that’s true, then my sprinting (if you consider sprinting through life a good thing) came to an end this weekend because I was in bed with exhaustion the whole time. We’re talking 1800’s fainting couch fatigue. Oh, the drama!

It’s no surprise really, even though this over-do-it brain is still disappointed that I didn’t get to do the 100 potential things I had scheduled. (Is it shocking to anyone that I would run myself into the ground based on that half-joke alone?)
It was a good reminder though, of a few things, and I’d like to share them with you as we start this extra short week:
1) You’re doing a good job. You are. There’s a lot going on in your life right now, and we put a lot of pressures on ourselves. I’ve coached enough people and teams to know without even talking to you that you’re doing a good job. Let’s start the week with that reminder.
2) Novelty can be the antidote to burnout… and general high stress. (thanks dopamine) We don’t have to do big things to be refreshed, we just have to get a little whimsy going in our average everyday life. Making some toast? Put on your favorite song and have a mini dance part while you wait. Getting some water? Pull out your most ridiculous cup (bonus points for a swirly straw) and get to drinking. Going to the grocery store? Decide that you’re only going to make right-hand turns to get there and see what you can do. There doesn’t need to be a great pressure for you to find brief moments to break the strain of your stress.
3) Rest will not wait for you. We say “I’ll rest when I’m dead”, and the body agrees. It’ll take you down (with colds, illnesses, general malaise) if you do not spend time with it. It’s better to make rest your BFF, and spend some quality time getting acquainted.
I suppose that’s how I’ll talk about my weekend- I spent time with an old friend, getting reacquainted.
Talk soon,

What’s up next: Last week, I quit another thing… and it got me to thinking: why do people always seem to apologize for quitting, even when it’s good?
