Why it matters: We're redefining success together in real time, documenting the messy middle between who we were taught to be and who we're becoming.

6 Months was the Death of Me

Who knew birthing a book was so intensive!? Since I decided to write a book in a moment of verbal diarrhea, it clearly wasn’t me.

Last summer I was on a podcast talking about what it means to lead human-centric. It was one of my first times putting a stake in the ground on what exactly created leaders of resilience, and I felt pretty good about.

There were jokes. There were sound bites. We were vibing.

And then a question that we had prepped before the podcast recording started: so what are you working on these days? Is a book coming?

Without thinking I said yes…. In 6 months.

6 months!? Who? Why? How?

At this point, it was a twinkle in my eye, only that week having decided to “look into it.” And why did I volunteer a timeline!? No one asked for that and yet I said it so confidently like I actually knew it was going to take that long.

But I can’t stand thinking I’d be a liar, so there we have it. That was the moment the book was born.

The worst part is that I also believed that was an accurate estimate. 6 months. Spoiler alert: it’s not.

Not when you’ve yet to even write one word.

This week, Being Human (Centric), a Leader’s Guide to Culture, People, and Profits will finally be available to the world. And it only took 3 times the amount of time I said it would.

That naive version of Rachel who promised the book went on to learn that she did not in fact know anything about writing, editing, styling, publishing, or promoting a book.

But as the saying goes, “God protects fools and babies,” of which one category definitely applied to me.

This book took 18 months instead of 6, and honestly? That's the whole point.

I wanted to write about human-centric leadership while running myself into the ground. The universe had other plans.

This isn't a victory lap, it's a field report from someone who's still learning what it means to honor my own humanity while building something meaningful. If you're in that same messy middle, let's figure it out together.

If you’re local, I would like to invite you to celebrate with me on Friday, November 14th, as I have a sit down chat at Daughters Coffee and Books. We’ll explore what it really means to lead with both heart and results, and how human-centric leadership applies in an age of AI and change.

If you’re not local, stay tuned. I’ll be talking a lot more about this on LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok (uuugghh… I know! I’m on the Tok!). You can follow me in any of those places, or even just here.

Finally, you can forward the book sign up to contacts you think will connect with the message and I’ll let you all know as soon as the pre-order link is live!

Do you want to know more about the behind the scenes? Well buckle up, because there’s a reason it became a 1.5 year journey… and I’m happy to tell you all about it.

For now, thanks for sticking with me. And here we go!

Talk soon,
